The Lamar County Engineering Department is seeking applicants for the position of:
LANDFILL OPERATOR

  • Qualifications: Applicants must be dependable and efficient workers, able to perform
    their duties outdoors during all seasons of the year. Applicants must possess a valid
    driver’s license and be able to run heavy machinery. Applicants must have references that
    can be contacted.
  • Description: This position will be responsible for managing the daily operation of the
    county’s C & D landfill. The operator will be required to achieve and maintain proper
    certifications as required by the proper governing agencies. Responsibilities will include
    measuring and recording incoming volumes of customers, ensuring that no prohibited
    waste is deposited in the cell, operating heavy equipment to properly cover exposed
    waste weekly and preparing new cells, and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the
    facility. The operator will follow all regulatory rules and procedures in the daily
    performance of the landfill. The landfill operator performs routine maintenance on
    equipment and notifies the County Engineer’s office of maintenance needs and repair
    issues. This position reports directly to the County Engineer.

  • Hours: Full Time, Tuesday-Friday 7:30 am – 3:45 pm, Saturday 7:30 am – 12:00 pm
  • Benefits: Full County benefits including LG Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance (Free Single
    Coverage), State retirement, and PTO earned on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Entry Pay: $12/hour
